This is the 5th title in the live action franchise. As the 3rd reboot, it still functions as its own stand along series. A 1 hour, 31 minute TV special, The Files of Young Kindaichi: Murder on the Magic Express (金田一少年の事件簿 魔術列車殺人事件) premiered earlier in March 2001 before this full series featured the same actor as the protagonist. Additional reboots of the franchise follow, but do not keep the same continuity as this series.
