Sakuragi Kenji (Abe Hiroshi), a former unconventional high school teacher turned lawyer, is recruited by a struggling high school’s Vice Principal to help senior students gain admission to the prestigious University of Tokyo. Despite opposition from the school’s chairwoman Tatsuno Kumiko (Noriko Eguchi), Kenji returns to teaching and enlists the help of his former student Mizuno Naomi (Nagasawa Masami). Known for his unique teaching methods like studying physics while playing table tennis and demanding 16-hour study sessions, Kenji must prove he can still inspire and guide students to academic success.

Prequel:

Dragon Zakura 2 is a sequel to the original Dragon Zakura manga series that takes place 10 years after the events of that story. This sequel (and this adaptation) follow the continued stories of the main character while a majority of the cast is not connected to the original series and can for the most part be enjoyed as a stand-alone series. The Dragon Zakura Japanese TV adaptation aired in Japan in July 2005 and ran for 11 episodes. There are also other adaptations of this original manga as well.
