The brand new website/database LAMA Watch is now open! This is a website dedicated to Live Action Manga Adaptations (LAMA) and where you can watch them in English. As new series and movies are released in English we’ll update our database with those titles and how you can watch them.
Promotion of these adaptations tend to be extremely limited in English from the official sources. So we wanted an easy way for you to be able to see what new stuff is coming out every month, even if it is on platform/services you might not have expected! The focus for regional availability will be targeted towards North America, so there may be some regional restrictions which could limit your access.
This database is also limited to only officially licensed and released titles in English. We want you to be able to start watching these adaptations as quickly as possible, while supporting the creators and localizing teams that make it possible to enjoy.
Website Launch Features
Over 300 Titles Listed
Even within some of the services where the titles are currently streaming, it can be difficult to find what is available. Direct links to where you can watch or buy any of the adaptations is listed on each page entry. If the source material manga is also available in English, links to those are also available.
On each page we have also provided the information if there are other adaptations or prequels/sequels for that selected adaptations. Sometimes not all of the adaptations are available in English, so this can give you a good idea on if you are going to get the adaptation’s complete story or not. If there are other streaming entries for the prequel/sequels, we have those dynamically linked at the end of each entry page.
More titles will be added as they come out. If titles do leave the their streaming service, then we will keep the page, but mark them as “No Longer Available” in hopes that they will return one day. We’ll also be working through any older titles that we might have missed and get them added to the database.
Filter Options
With our launch the following filters are available:
- Streaming Service – Limit the display to just the services/platforms you currently use
- Currently Streaming – In case an adaptation is no longer available, you can remove those from being shown
- Format – Limit by TV series, movie, special, or musical / stage play
- Magazine – See which magazine the manga originally published in Japan
Searchable
In addition to the filtering options there is a full search available. Sometimes the English release of the adaptation doesn’t line up with what the original manga is called. You can search by any number of keywords or titles to find if the adaptation is available.
Monthly New Releases
We’ll be highlighting the new releases each month as they get announced! So each month you can check out what the latest English subtitled releases will be in one convenient place!
Social Media Reminders / News
Don’t always want to check the website? No problem! We’ll post on our Bluesky and Twitter (X) social news feeds when new titles are announced for English release. This will primarily be a news-only feed for English releases, so you won’t get bogged down with a lot of posts or unrelated content.
Dark Mode
You can toggle between Dark and Light mode for the site in the upper right corner by clicking on the Sun / Moon icon.
Future Features / Updates
While we have just launched, there is still more to do! Over the coming months here’s our list of features we hope to expand upon:
- Continued update of backlog titles that we may have missed
- Continued updates of new titles as they get announced
- Magazine information write-ups
- Sort by manga original release date
- Sort by Japanese (or original language) adaptation release date
- Sort by English release date
- Filter on magazine demographics (shonen, shojo, etc.)
- Filter on adaptation genres (action, drama, etc.)
About Database Classifications
When building any sort of database, its important to have a fixed structure on what is allowed, or not allowed to be included. Below is the set of guidelines we have used on if a title is included or not:
- The original source material must have first been created as a manga
- If the manga was a direct adaptation of another licensed source (such as a light novel), it does not count.
- The original manga can be inspired by other materials (such as Lupin the 3rd is inspired by the fictional character Arsène Lupin, but isn’t an adaptation of that work and its own standalone series)
- If the manga was created within a year of the live action adaptation, it was likely created as part of a larger media-mix and wouldn’t be classified as the “original source material” and thus is not listed in the database.
- The live action adaptation must have an official English release that is available in North America that is not limited by location
- Fansubs or other unofficial subtitled releases are not included. Bootleg DVD/Blu-Ray releases are not included.
- Showings at festivals or in-person only theater showings are not included.
- DVD/Blu-ray releases that are not Region A (or similar) are not included.
- Stage Play or Musicals need to have an official video released, and in-person-only showings are not included.
- If there is a physical home media release (DVD/Blu-Ray), it still needs to be reasonable available for purchase as new and not for over the MSRP
- DVDs/Blu-rays that have gone out-of-print and can no longer be purchased from Amazon, Crunchyroll, or similar will not be listed
- How accurate the adaptation is to the original source material does not matter.
- The adaptation must be primarily live action, and not animated (or audio-only).
- Commercials or other promotional events are not included.
